I was so excited for this session.  I’ve worked with Gwen’s parents for a while at the hospital, and we have some of the same common geeky interests.  I also knew that Stacy was not a fan of pink.  That her little girl may have her feeling a little lost.  I know I remember feeling that way with my baby girl, as I’ve never been particularly girly (and my daughter has turned into the *biggest* girly girl ever – I’ve adapted, it’s what we do, right?) So, I wanted to give her a beautiful session, and show her that you don’t have to wear pink to be beautiful or feminine.  Stacy loves all things green, and for months I was saving up every pretty, soft, non-pink prop I could find.  I had ordered a velvet set in a soft blue before I even knew they were expecting – it reminds me of a cloak worn in Lord of the Rings, and I knew it would be perfect to include in their newborn session.

So I had very high hopes for this session, and so many props set up, I didn’t think there was ever a chance of making it through all of them.  Gwen must have known how excited I was, because she was an *absolute dream* the whole time!  In fact she was still sleeping once I finished everything I had planned, in under 2.5 hours, so I threw together a few little last minute extras.  I finally just had to call it good because I was out of ideas for the moment!  (For the record, they informed me later that she decided she’d gotten all the sleep she needed for a while, and was up allll night after that!  Looking at these photos though, I’d say it was worth it 😉 )

I’m in love with all the tones of this session, from the warm rich jewel tones, to the soft neutral creams.  Gwen’s skin tone was absolutely perfect too, and looked amazing in any color I put her in.  I don’t know where all the newborn boys have been in Escanaba lately, but as I’ve been getting all the girls, it was nice to mix up the colors a bit!
