Many of my clients ask what they should bring to their newborn session. While I have a cozy, comfy studio stocked with water, snacks, coffee, and all the props, wraps, and headbands you could ever imagine, there are a few things you can bring to make it go even more smoothly.

  • Pacifier – if you are OK with your baby using a pacifier, definitely bring it with! Even if your baby does not usually seem to like one, sometimes they will take it just long enough to get through a pose. I do keep clean, unused pacifiers if you happen to forget yours, but I will never use a pacifier on a baby if you would rather I didn’t!
  • Extra milk/formula – whether you are nursing or bottle feeding, sometimes babies need to eat a little more than usual to get into a nice, deep sleep because I am moving them around so much. It’s very common for baby to take one or two (or three or four!) snack breaks, which is why I plan for extra time for the session, just in case.
  • Things for siblings – often parents will opt to have dad or a grandparent bring siblings just for their part, but they are more than welcome to stay for the whole session too! I keep a small variety of toys for them to play with and snacks as well, but if there is anything in particular your child loves or will need to keep occupied, please feel free to bring it along!
  • Comforts for yourself – I keep light snacks and bottled water on hand, but please make yourself at home! If we are working through the lunch hour please don’t be afraid to bring food, or even run across the street to D&M Subs – I’ve had clients do both, and it always makes me happy to see them comfortable enough to make themselves comfy! Layers are a great idea as well – I keep my studio at 80 degrees, and while some clients love this, others get overheated quick. Wearing layers is a great way to make sure you’ll be comfortable!
  • Special props, heirlooms, etc – this is NOT a necessity at all – I definitely have everything needed to style your session beautifully! But, if there’s anything you’d like included, like an heirloom toy or piece of clothing, let me know and be sure to bring it! (sidenote – if there’s anything special you’d really like but haven’t purchased yet, talk to me first and I can direct you to items that will photograph best, such as knit vs. crocheted outfits and hats)

As you can see, not much is needed for your newborn session at my studio! I try to make it as comfortable and easy for you as possible – you’ve got enough on your mind caring for a new little one, and I like this to be a carefree, enjoyable memory for you. Curl up on my green velvet couch, sip a coffee, and let me document your baby’s first moments for you.
