I’ve done many 1 year sessions over the years – we usually focus on simple setups, capturing baby’s details, and maybe add a cake smash at the end. Those types of sessions are great and turn out beautiful – but I really wanted the option to dive deeper into your story at these sessions. To really show who your baby is at 1 year old. I’ve learned as my children grew that these details tend to fade, so preserving them in photos is really special.

Hailey’s mom wrote out a beautiful detailing of Hailey’s personality. She described her has curious and inquisitive – she is always getting her parents to chase her through the house. They go on hikes as a family and love the outdoors. Hailey’s mom has been on several safaris, and planned a jungle themed nursery for Hailey – dad even made a custom rhinoceros rocker for her! Hailey also loves books, and if she’s not reading with her parents, she is likely pulling books off the shelves on her own. I took all of this into account when planning her session, and while we did capture some simple portraits, we also captured the essence of Hailey’s personality at this stage.

I didn’t want to promise anything as my digital composite skills can be hit and miss, but I had something in mind for this session, and snuck the final image into their gallery without saying anything. They loved the image of Hailey with a “real” rhinoceros so much that I created another version that her dad could use as his computer background. It was so much fun to play with some new ideas!
